The Microsoft Lumia 535 Is Now Official; Available In November

Microsoft’s first Lumia-branded, quad-core, mid ranger, seems to hit all the right notes for Windows Phone fans.

Today is indeed a big day for Microsoft as it has launched its first Windows Phone-powered smartphone after many unsuccessful attempts in the past (the Kin One and Kin Two was the first batch). The smartphone called the Lumia 535 does away with the Nokia branding and now proudly sports the Microsoft logo on the front and the back. The smartphone falls perfectly in line with past leaks (RM-1090) and comes with some budget specifications that make the price tag worth it.

One look at the Microsoft Lumia 535 and you will know why the smartphone was created to begin with. Its that massive 5 inch IPS display that sadly, comes at a cringe-worthy qHD (960 x 540) resolution. Microsoft’s cut throat quest for delivering a 5 inch phablet-sized product at a low price has indeed resulted in a pixel density that we simply do not have the guts to calculate. The display however is an IPS panel and supports TrueColor (24-bit/16M).

Display aside, you will get the latest Windows Phone 8.1 experience with the Denim Update. Also included is that 5 MP front-facing camera that has been placed there for the selfie-conscious. The back also gets 5 MP unit, but unlike most of the Windows Phone devices in this segment, we get a handy LED flash as well.

As for the rest of the specs:

  • We get a 5 inch qHD (960 x 540), TrueColor, IPS LCD display
  • Inside Microsoft delivers a 1.2 GHz, quad-core, Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset coupled with 1 GB of RAM
  • The memory department delivers, with 8 GB of internal memory and expandable memory support of up to 128 GB
  • As for the camera we get a 5 MP AF primary snapper with an LED flash on the back while the front facing unit again gets a capable 5 MP wide-angle unit
  • We get the usual radios including, WLAN IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and WCDMA connectivity all the way up to Cat 24 (country dependent)
  • All of the above is powered by a 1905 mAh battery that delivers up to 13 hrs on 3G and a standby time of up to 11 days

Microsoft will be launching the smartphone in both single SIM and dual SIM variants. The Lumia 535 will be available in orange, black, bright green, blue and white when it goes on sale this month for an estimated RRP of Rs 8411 (approx.). The handset is expected to go on sale beginning with China, Hong Kong and Bangladesh followed by the rest of the markets worldwide.
