Google Fit Is Now Available For All Android Devices

The app will use sensors to log activity data, and will even integrate with apps built on the Fit SDK

 

Google has finally released its Fit app for Android that records your fitness activity via your device or apps that are built on the Google Fit SDK. The tech giant previewed the app back at its I/O developer conference earlier this June, which will go head to head with Apple's HealthKit applications.

Fit allows users to view their health and fitness data in a single location, and uses a device's sensors to track a users activity. Walking, cycling and running are the three most obvious types of workouts, but users will also be able to manually enter information about workouts the app hasn't tracked.

There's also support for heart-rate information from supported smartphones and even Android Wear devices. Users will also be able to manually enter their height, weight and other details, in order to make up a more thorough outlook of one's health and fitness.

The app takes a bare bones approach at reporting health and fitness data, with simplicity being the key to delivering content to users. Google says there will also be an online destination from where users will be able to access all their health and fitness data, but that doesn't seem to have gone online just yet.
