Microsoft Offers Office 365 Customers Unlimited OneDrive Storage

Following a strong quarterly earnings report, Microsoft surely knows how to rope in customers

In Microsoft's most recent quarterly earnings report, two things were apparent – the success of its cloud services and the growth of the Office 365 subscription service. Now, the company has announced that it will provide customers of Office 365 (Home, Personal and University) unlimited OneDrive cloud storage.

The move comes across as Microsoft thanking its loyal customers, but is sort of a 'hitting two birds with one stone' move. Access to unlimited cloud storage will undoubtedly boost the value proposition of Office 365, while at the same time bring users looking for vast troves of online storage to buy into Microsoft's Office suite.

Microsoft so far has only flipped on the unlimited storage switch for Home, Personal and University subscribers of Office 365, but says it plans to bring all customers of the service into the program in the coming months. The company a few months ago opened up several new entry points for users of Office 365, while also bringing its Office apps for competing platforms like iOS.

If the latest announcement is in keeping with CEO Satya Nadella's “mobile first, cloud first” mantra, consumers are sure to welcome it with open arms. At a time when Microsoft is battling with Google, Dropbox and other such popular personal cloud storage services, unlimited OneDrive storage has come in as a big bonus.
