XOLO Announces The Octa-Core 8X-1000 With HIVE UI

The HIVE UI is indeed a big leap for the local manufacturer in terms of software.

XOLO has finally unleashed its all-new HIVE UI along with the 8X-1000 smartphone that they have been teasing about for a long time. As the name suggests, the smartphone is an octa-core one, but we think that the highlight of the handset is not the hardware but the impressive HIVE UI software that XOLO has packed into it.

As for the 8X-1000, it sports a 5 inch (1280 x720 pixel) HD display that comes with Asahi Dragontail glass. On the back, you will find Corning’s -- Gorilla Glass 3 to protect the it from scratches. On the inside, we find an octa-core, MediaTek processor with a Mali 450 GPU, coupled with 2 GB of RAM all of which runs on Android KitKat 4.4 based HIVE UI.

The handset comes with an 8MP EXMOR R sensor with an LED flash on the back and a 2 MP front-facing one for selfies. 16 GB of internal memory is available along with an expansion slot for micro SD cards.

Clearly it is the HIVE UI that stole the limelight at the event, which is what the phone seems to have been built to showcase. The HIVE UI seems to be software that is well integrated with a number of services from social media to music and even software customisation.

XOLO has included Connect an inbuilt app that will allow HIVE UI users to voice out their opinions, which the company hopes will allow them to tweak the software to perfection. EDGE is another service that HIVE connects to delivering to users, themes made by local artists and even the ability to contribute the same to the network. The music player has also been revamped to deliver a more all-round experience with integration with last.fm and song recognition in the from Fusion X. The level of customisation runs deeper, with even the widgets on the brand new launcher changing colours, by selecting hues from the background wallpaper.

Indeed XOLO has worked very hard, and we hope that HIVE UI persists and is not a one time release. Clearly Samsung and LG have a lot of thinking to do considering that their current custom UI’s seem to have no sense of design nor direction.

The XOLO 8X-1000 handset is priced at Rs 13,999, comes in black and will be available starting next week.
