Apple's Problems With The 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Battery Are No More

A Taiwanese firm called Simplo has apparently solved the issue, meaning the iPhone 6 can be as slim as possible.

 

Apple is for the first time trying its hand at building a phablet, and given its lack of experience (or stubborn-ness) has run into several hurdles. While the 5.5-inch display on the iPhone 6 will make it huge, it still has to be slim, a problem the company has apparently been grappling with since April.

Given the thinness of the device, Apple's manufacturing partners were finding it hard to build a battery that was slim enough and also meet the company's performance standards. However, Taiwanese site UDN.com recently reported that a firm called Simplo from the same country has solved the issue.

Back in April a report said that Apple required a 2mm thick battery that would still provide the device with sufficient battery life. Now Simplo has delivered on Apple's demands and the battery made by the company is supposedly flexible too.

The report adds that Apple will part ways with its long-time battery supplier Dynapak, though a firm called Desai will continue to work alongside Simplo. There could also be a third supplier, Sunwoda, which according to earlier rumours had solved the battery issue back in June.

While details about Apple's upcoming iPhone 6 remain sketchy, there were reports of the 5.5-inch device being powered by a 2,500mAh battery. While it's a huge increase in capacity over the 5s, even that seems pretty small for a device with a 5.5-inch screen. Maybe Apple figured out a way? We don't know.

The biggest question of all still remains unanswered however. Will Apple release the larger iPhone 6 this year or will the delays make it postpone the launch to 2015?
