Microsoft To Add Ability To Create Folders In Windows Phone 8.1

The current alternative to create folders on the Start screen is by using Nokia App Folders.

Placing apps in Start screen folders on Windows Phone-powered devices currently requires users to install Nokia App Folders, but that could soon change. Microsoft posted instructions, which were pulled down, showing how to create folders, indicating that the functionality could be coming to Windows Phone 8.1.

Native folder support for Windows Phone will be very similar to that on iOS and Android, where users can simply drag tiles on top of each other to make folders. Given that the function isn't already available on Windows Phone 8.1, it could be launched along with the OS update for devices currently running WP 8.

According to Engadget, Microsoft may have launched Windows Phone 8.1 for a select few devices and developers, but it's hidden away many new functionalities. It is expected that these new features should roll out with the full-blown launch of WP 8.1 which is scheduled to arrive later this summer.
