Twitter Now Supports Animated GIF Across Platforms

You can now share all those crazy animated GIFs from Tumblr, Pinterest and Google+ to Twitter.

 

Twitter has finally added native support for animated GIFs for Android, iOS and twitter.com. It was one of the most required features there is for any social network and Twitter finally took the leap past Facebook.

Twitter announced the same via their support handle in the form a cool animated GIF itself. So now you can directly uploaded GIF images stored on your smartphone to the Twitter app in the same way you upload an image. Of course it will take some time to load your timeline, now that your friends will go bezerk sharing gifs from all over the web. Still then, it is a much-welcomed feature.

There is one odd thing though, unlike Instagram and Vine apps which play videos as your scroll through your feed, you will need to click on the play button to view your GIF.  Hopefully Twitter incorporates the same in an upcoming update so that you don’t need to leave the news feed to view what’s inside.

Currently Google+ is the only network to support GIF images outright (cover images, display pictures and posts). Google’s Hangouts app also lets you send animated GIFS that play in the chat window as well. With GIFs becoming the new standard of communication on social networks, let’s hope that Facebook jumps on to the bandwagon soon.
