Malware Alert: Buying A Cheap Chinese Phone? You've Got To Read This

Apparently you cannot even trace the manufacturer of the phone as a German Security Firm finds out.

Many people have already warned you not to buy a cheap Chinese handset. Well, a German security firm going by the name of G Data Software has found a lot of malware apps that come preloaded in a number of such smartphones.

The ‘espionage software’ comes pre-loaded in such devices, meaning that you cannot uninstall them even if you do not use them. The company has found malicious code which appears to come from the roots of the proprietary software in phones that barely cost Rs 2000 yet come with big screen and appear suspiciously cheap.

Yes, your data is indeed being lifted off your phone and is stored online for others to use it. Others who obviously do not have the right intentions.

Moreover, G Data states that the company could not even trace the manufacturer of the handset after many consumers began complaining about it.

G Data spokesman Thorsten Urbanski said, “The manufacturer is not mentioned,” he said. “Not in the phone, not in the documentation, nothing else.”

The phone in question here goes by the name of the N9500 which according to the Associated Press is on sale on a number of websites by a handful of retailers listed in China.

G Data claims that the malware allows hackers to steal personal information, place rogue calls and even turn on the camera and microphone without the user knowing about the same. The company also claims that the stolen data which comes from a number of consumers worldwide gets sent to somewhere in China.
