Google Search Now Lets You Call Businesses Right From Your PC

Just a click on the big set of digits in your search results starts a voice conversation on Google's Hangouts app.

Google has rolled out the functionality of calling businesses that pop up on your search results directly through your PC through its Hangouts app. If you see a big set of digits in your search result, just a single click will start a voice conversation, eliminating the step of using your phone to make a call.

While users in the US and Canada will not be charged for any of the calls they make via the Internet, in India the charges for making a call to a regular phone via Google's Hangouts app is 2 cents (approx Rs 1.21). Moreover, we couldn't find any business in India where Google has already started listing phone numbers, but expect it to come soon.

The new feature isn't the last word in time-saving but it's a step towards making search on PCs more like that on mobile. Just as tapping a phone number in the search results on your smartphone opens up your preferred caller app, doing it on a desktop opens up Hangouts.

What we'd really want is Google to find a way to tie both our devices, so tapping on a set of digits on our desktop opens up the caller app on our smartphones. Still, for the time being we can live with the new Internet calling feature.
