Micromax Launches Canvas Win W092 And W121 Windows Phones

Becomes the first local brand to announce Windows Phone 8.1 devices in India.

Micromax has finally bought Windows Phone to the masses in India by launching two new Windows Phone 8.1 handsets. The Canvas Win W092 and Win W121 are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processors and will be priced at Rs 6500 and Rs 9500 respectively when they go on sale in early July.

The Win W092 comes with 4 inch (800 x 480 pixel) IPS display and is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor with 1GB of RAM. The dual-SIM handset includes a 5MP primary camera and a 0.3MP front-facing one, which comes with 8GB of expandable internal memory. A 1500mAh battery powers all of the above which is a bit low considering its dual-SIM capability.

The bigger Canvas Win W121, which sports a 5 inch 1280 x 720 pixel IPS display and is powered by the same 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor as the W092. The handset includes a larger 8MP camera with an LED flash and also a 2MP front-facing one for video calls. The device again comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory which is expandable. Also included is a larger 2000mAh battery unit which is good considering the screen size and dual-SIM capabilities of the handset.

Both handsets clearly mark the entry of Windows Phone in the budget segment which so far was dominated by Nokia’s 525 and the Lumia 630 handsets. Still then, Micromax’s offering is clearly nowhere close to Nokia’s budget handset (Lumia 630) which offers better quality and a faster processor at a similar price.
