Is Google Telling Us That Android 5.0 Is On Its Way?

Google over the years has told us about Android versions through the time, but they could be trolling us.

Google has released a few screenshots showing off how you can keep yourself abreast with all the happenings at the World Cup using Google Now. As interesting as that may be, it's the time – indicated as 5:00 – which is rumoured to be Google's way of suggesting that Android 5.0 is on the way.

However bonkers that may sound, if you've been following the history of Android over the years, Google has time and again indicated Android versions to come using the time. Don't believe us? Take a look at the image Droid Life has put together of Nexus devices proving this phenomenon.

Does this mean that Google's next version of Android is on its way? We can't really say. Google over the past couple of years has rolled out some epic trolls, and this could just be one of them. Maybe the company has caught onto the fact that we've caught onto its little time scheme, hence they're using it to put us off.

Apart from the myths and other Google mumbo jumbo, the Google I/O is all set to kick off in just two weeks. While Android Wear is certain to make headlines at this year's conference, we wouldn't completely rule out that Google could show us glimpses of its upcoming operating system.

We wouldn't go so far to say that Google could launch Android 5.0 at the I/O, because the company has traditionally reserved rolling out new OS versions alongside its latest Nexus flagship phones. It could be the same with Android 5.0, but since many expect an end to the Nexus line, we're not really sure of anything.
