Sunrise Calendar Comes To Android; Goes Cross-Platform

After being iOS only for a long time, Sunrise comes to Android and your desktop.

There is clearly a lack of cross-platform tools out there for those who switch between Android and iOS pretty often. Sunrise, a well-known calendar app from iOS has made a smooth transition to Android and has even moved from your mobile device to your desktop (a web app), making it the first calendar app to run across platforms.

There simply aren’t too many options on Google Play store when it comes to calendar apps. While some apps look the part they may simply not be practical enough. Sunrise wanted to break this tradition and build an app that not only looked good, but performed better as well.

The UI for Android is quite similar to the iOS version, making the switching from iOS to Android and back easy and convenient. The app’s looks are a lot more inviting than Google’s plain Jane Calendar app which has not changed since Ice Cream Sandwich. The app even displays map imagery for event locations; all integrated into the app along with a 3-day week view for those who have lots of appointments. The Sunrise Calendar also comes with a handy widget as well.

Looks aside, the app is practical and when you bring the web app into the picture, gets more flexible than ever. The web app is a lot easier to use than Google’s offering which brings make it extremely complicated to add events via your Gmail account.

Presently, Sunrise supports only Google and iCloud calendar accounts, but the developer will be bringing in more platforms and Android tablet support soon.
