WhatsApp Returns To Windows Phone, Brings New Features And Relief

The app gets chat backgrounds, a refreshed settings section, and much more.

WhatsApp has finally surfaced in the Windows Phone Store. For those of you who purchased a Lumia 630 and felt stranded for a couple of weeks, the app certainly brings some much-needed relief.

Strangely, upon installing app on the Lumia 630, we did get a message telling us that the app is not compatible with Windows Phone 8.1. However, all features of the apps are working great on the latest version of Windows Phone.

There are subtle improvements in the form of a revamped settings page and some minor bits here and there. Also added are Privacy Controls; features that will help you get rid of the pesky friends you don’t want to chat with. Next up, is the ability to change chat backgrounds although the feature will allow you to select only one default background for all chats.

What’s more important is that the app now works flawlessly, which clearly shows Microsoft’s involvement in ensuring that the messaging platform runs perfectly.

Voice calls is something that will obviously appear in the messenger in due time. So it seems that WhatsApp’s next big update is yet to come. Till then Windows Phone users can enjoy the newly added features and a stable version of the app for now.
