Nokia Belle Update Goes Live

All Symbian^3 devices can benefit from the new software.

The much awaited Nokia Belle update has now started seeding for Symbian^3 devices. The owners of Nokia N8, E7, X7, C7, E6, and C6-01 can now download new software through Nokia's Ovi Suite. However, the owners of Nokia 500 will have to wait a little longer.

Here's a quick guide for the update procedure:

  •  Connect your Symbian^3 device to a PC.
  • Make sure you're running the latest version of Nokia Suite. If it's older than the version 3.3.86, the Belle update may not show up.
  • Click on Software updates button, and it should list Belle. It's a pretty straightforward process after that.

Be patient though, as the update is almost 300 MB in size. Once it's downloaded, the Ovi Suite might ask you to download the additional 60 MB of data. Finally, your phone will be flashed with the new firmware. This is the most critical part, because if the USB cable gets disconnected at this point, your phone will get bricked!

I've updated my N8, and its modest 680 MHz CPU is having no problem keeping up with Belle. Apart from fresh look, the update brings many improvements to the UI such as the additional home screens, widgets of different sizes, and an Android-like pull-down notification bar.
