Sony KitKat Update Now Rolling Out To Xperia Z, ZL, ZR And The Tablet Z

Update brings performance tweaks and some sweet new additions.

Sony has finally let loose the KitKat updates for the newer Xperia range of devices on their servers which are probably on their way to your device right now. The updates as usual are being rolled out gradually, but are definitely well worth the wait.

The KitKat updates are available for the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z which basically covers the newer range of devices that Sony had launched almost a year ago. The update apart from the standard improvements that come with Android KitKat 4.4.2 will also add some new features and eye-candy to the UI as Sony posted on their blog.

The complete changelog includes:

  • Google’s Android 4.4; KitKat along with improved performance & user interface (UI) optimisation
  • New PlayStation 4-like UI with new live wallpapers, sleeker animations and a revamped Status Bar and Quick Settings
  • Refreshed native app portfolio bringing the latest versions of the messaging, email, Smart Social Camera and Battery STAMINA Mode with tweaked and improved experiences
  • Sony’s Media app also will see a refreshed UI and bring the interface on par with Newer Xperia devices. Along with this comes support for the SmartWear Experience; SmartBand SWR10 and the all-new Lifelog app
  • The popular ‘Xperia Theme’ feature will now be available for these devices as well.

The KitKat rollout as Sony puts it, should be reach all devices in a matter of four weeks; so keep checking for that update icon in your app drawer for a notifcation to show up. Sony has stated that they will begin rolling out Android KitKat 4.4 for the Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1 and Xperia M2 (and dual variants) from July. With so much at stake we are sure that these owners would not mind waiting as well.
