Karbonn To Sell Its Titanium Hexa Smartphone Exclusively Through Amazon.in

Both Amazon and Karbonn seem to want to achieve what Flipkart and Motorola have done.

Indian smartphone manufacturer Karbonn has announced that it will sell its upcoming Titanium Hexa smartphone exclusively through Amazon.in at a price of Rs 16,990. The two companies hope to replicate the success of Motorola's mid-range Moto G sold exclusively through the country's largest online retailer Flipkart.

Customers will be able to pre-oreder the Titanium Hexa on Amazon from May 13, while sales will begin only a week later on May 20. To sweeten the deal, the two companies have also rolled out a promotional offer where buyers of the device will receive a Plantronics Bluetooth Headset for free.

"This initiative will free our customers from the annoyance of crowded marketplaces and malls and recurring parking and shopping woes," said Shashin Devsare, executive director of Karbonn Mobiles in a joint statement.

The Titanium Hexa features a 5.5-inch Full HD display and is powered by a 1.5GHz hexa-core MediaTek processor. The phone runs on Google's latest Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, so its 2GB of RAM should make for some breezy performance. Internal storage memory stands at 16GB, while users have the option to expand that via a microSD card slot.

In terms of imaging capability, the Titanium Hexa will house a 13MP primary camera at the rear, while a 5MP front-facing camera should suffice for taking all those selfies. Apart from this, the phone also features dual SIM card slots, but lacks 4G connectivity.

It's a bold move by Karbonn to sell its device exclusively through Amazon which still has a long way to go before it can catch up to Flipkart in India. For Amazon on the other hand, the Titanium Hexa's compelling spec sheet could be a ticket to massively growing its smartphone sales overnight.

While Motorola has made Flipkart the exclusive seller of all its phones in India, Karbonn hasn't yet hinted at any such development. Moreover, Karbonn's bread and butter devices are still low-cost devices which are sold mainly through small retailers across the country.
