Apple Hiring Med-Tech Experts Hints At The Existence Of An iWatch

Rumours suggest the iWatch could even monitor blood sugar levels and nutrition.

Apple's alleged iWatch has been doing the rounds at the rumour mill for some time now, but the biggest proof of the wearable devices existence comes through a hiring spree of medical technology experts by the Cupertino company.

Past leaks have already hinted that the iWatch will focus on health and fitness, and according to a Reuters report the company has hired over half a dozen experts in bio medicine over the past year. According to two unnamed sources close to the development, Apple hired a prominent researcher just two weeks ago.

The company is also recruiting other medical and hardware experts, and the report adds that most of them specialise in the field of sensor technology. This hints at the devices ability to monitor everything from blood sugar levels to nutrition.

Recently a mobile health executive claims he met the alleged team working on the iWatch and cited them as saying, "The company has aspirations beyond wearable devices, and is considering a full health and fitness services platform modelled on its apps store."

A recent rumour suggested that the iWatch could hit the market as soon as the second half of 2014, with the company already ordering the production of between 3-4 million devices. In all probability, if the device will be launched it could be alongside the much speculated iPhone 6 or new iPad line of devices in September or October.

While it's too early to infer too much from the developments, rumours of the device having advanced capabilities such as blood sugar monitoring have been cropping up. If so, Apple's iWatch could undercut a lot of other wearable devices in the market today which simply offer fitness tracking and other capabilities.

The health and fitness technology segment has become a recent favourite of industry giants, illustrated by Facebook's takeover of fitness and activity tracking app Moves. Even Google has made its presence felt by launching its Android Wear operating system that will soon be used by LG and Motorola in their respective smartwatches.
