Google Now Gets Smarter; Can Now Run Independently Offline

Cards will now keep pulling data from your phone even if you get disconnected from the web.

Google has just released an update which will make your Google Now card suggestions a lot smarter. The update basically brings offline support which means that Google Now cards will now appear even you if happen to be out of range or do not have access to the internet.

Earlier when your device was unable to connect to a cellular data network, it would simply put out a message saying “No internet connection”. But now the new update ensures that Google Now can work independently and search for events happening on your phone (stored locally) and display relevant information instead.

This is really helpful, especially if you use the service a lot. Google Now basically works by sifting through the data in your account and devices, to give you cards with information that are relevant to your location. The data is obviously compiled from Google’s servers and then accordingly relayed to your mobile device from time to time. We guess that the new update will look into your device and search for existing information, rather than searching through Google’s servers (which are online) making information available even when you are disconnected from the internet.

The personal search assistant developed by Google has been seeing a number of updates and improvements in the form of new features since its launch back in July 2012. The service has expanded from Android to iOS and even on desktop systems running Google’s Chrome web browser. Updates are rolling out gradually and if you have not used Google Now just yet, you can download the latest version by clicking here.
