Samsung To Announce The QHD Specd Premium GALAXY S5 By June

Expect some all new Exynos silicon, a QHD display, premium design and a hefty price tag.

A Korean newspaper has pointed out that Samsung might release the premium QHD version of the GALAXY S5 (Project KQ) as soon as June. Asia Today reported that insiders have claimed that the phone indeed exists and that Samsung will be making an official announcement for the KQ pretty soon.

We recently came to know that the premium GALAXY S5 is known internally as Project KQ and were one of the first two in line out of the total ten revisions. These handsets never made it to production because Samsung simply ran short in terms of supplies; with only revision number 5 (current GALAXY S5) which made it to production.

Samsung fans worldwide back then were indeed expecting a QHD specd monster back at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). But as it turned out to be, Samsung’s current flagship lacked a QHD screen and even a premium body (all we got was some band-aid themed design). Even after all this, the GALAXY S5 as we all know is clearly beating the competition in terms of sales. Samsung seems to have pushed out an upgrade to the GALAXY S4 and simply refined what was wrong with it.

In terms of hardware specifications, the premium GALAXY S5 is reported to sport an octa-core Exynos 5430 chipset which features a quad 2.1 GHz Cortex-A15 and a quad 1.5 GHz Cortex-A7 cores in addition to the 600 MHz ARM Mali GPU. Another interesting addition was the inclusion of Intel LTE modem (XMM7620) which supports speeds of up to 300 Mbps for downloads and 150 Mbps for uploads making 3G a thing of the past.

With competition coming from the LG G3 and Oppo’s Find 7 in the QHD spec race, Samsung it seems does not want to fall behind and will deliver a stunning flagship this year after all.
