Tata DOCOMO Launches Mobile Radio Service

Allows you to access channels even in handsets without FM support.

Tata DOCOMO, which is the unified brand for the CDMA and GSM services of Tata Teleservices Limited (TTL), has launched a new offer in the form of a mobile radio service accessible to its customers from anywhere. Subscribers can listen to prominent FM channels through their handsets, even if it doesn't have an FM receiver. The company's Karnataka COO, AP Sriram said, "Catering to this segment's consumption of music, this service will be offered to Tata DOCOMO GSM and CDMA customers across circles. Through this service, we aim at changing the way radio music is consumed and reinvent the ways our customers can experience it every day. With the launch of Mobile Radio service, Tata DOCOMO customers have an access to leading FM radio channels across India".

Currently available in 11 regional languages, the option can be activated by dialling the toll-free number 505927, which will brief the prospective subscriber about the service details and subscription charges. Users have to pay a nominal recharge of Rs 10 for 10 days, while the bundled usage of 100 minutes ensures an ad-free experience. However, considering that pretty much every phone nowadays comes with an FM radio receiver (except of course for the "premium" iPhone), it's hard to see this product getting popular.
