Samsung's New Galaxy S5 Is Harder To Repair Than Its Predecessor

The S5 is still way easier to fix than some of its rivals, but it just goes to show that expandable doesn't exactly mean repairable.

 

Samsung may be one of the few manufacturers that still provide users of its flagship device a high level of expandability, but if you take a look at iFixit's latest Galaxy S5 teardown, the phone isn't as repairable as its predecessor.

 

Samsung still provides users of the Galaxy S5 the option of removing the battery and expanding storage via a micro SD card slot. However, unlike on the Galaxy S4, in order to get to any of the internals of the S5 you've got to first remove the display.

 

What makes things worse is that it is especially tricky to remove the display in the first place, but once you're past that hurdle, it's smooth sailing. The teardown also revealed that Samsung uses a Maxim heart rate sensor and a Synaptics fingerprint reader.

 

While the Samsung Galaxy S5 is still a remarkably easy phone to fix when compared to some of the competition, it just isn't as easy as the company's last flagship.
