Voice Calls On WhatsApp Could Arrive On Android And iOS Sooner Than You Think

Minor clues in WhatsApp’s latest translation request points to voice calling features.

While Windows Phone is awaiting its major WhatsApp makeover, Android and iOS users have been waiting for just one new feature—Voice calling. Latest news from software translation requests for the app which involves volunteers for the translation process, point out that voice calling is indeed almost there.

WhatsApp CEO, Jan Koum announced to the world at the MWC that voice calling—a long awaited feature—will finally make its way to WhatsApp in spring this year. He also mentioned that the feature would be coming to Android and iOS devices before Windows Phone. After the announcement, the company seemed to be taking its own sweet time in adding the feature to the world’s most popular messaging platform. There was no sign or clue about its arrival until now.

The latest translation request for the app, point out that WhatsApp is indeed working on the feature and that it will be released pretty soon. The translation request involved questions like ‘Label displayed in status bar notification for incoming call’ and ‘Label displayed in status bar notification for outgoing call’.

Such translations simply mean that WhatsApp is indeed working on the feature. Another fact to point out here is that translation requests are one of the last steps in the build process; meaning that the feature may be almost ready.
