LG G2 Finally Gets KitKat, G Flex May Be Up Next

Brings noticeable performance improvements and 'Immersive Mode' to LG's flagship device.

The LG G2 was definitely one of the finer devices that launched last year. It sported a FHD screen and was one of the first Android devices to sport OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). But since then, the phone has barely seen any updates and like its richer cousin the LG G Flex, is still stuck on Android Jelly Bean V 4.2.2.

Finally there is some hope; as reported by members of the popular Android forum XDA, LG has begun rolling-out an Android v4.4.2 KitKat update for the G2 in India. KitKat brings a lot of improvements to Android, mainly a new runtime called ART. Performance improvements are guranteed as KitKat was optimised to run on devices with as little as 512 MB RAM.

The update for the LG G2 does brings in a host of improvements, some similar to the rest of the herd, including the HTC One.

  • Improved user interface with Android 4.4 KitKat: The latest version of Android includes enhancements such as restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, improved closed captioning support, and stronger security.
  • Improved battery efficiency: the phone plays music more efficiently and supports the battery-saving location mode, extending battery life.
  • Faster processing speed: The latest version of Android provides a noticeable speed boost that runs applications 17% faster than before and web-browsing speed has improved with the Chromium engine.
  • Printing in the Cloud: Google Cloud Printer makes it simple to print documents via Wi-Fi or a Bluetooth connection.
  • Enhanced “Knock On” feature: The responsiveness of LG’s Knock On feature has been improved as well.

Those of you who have rooted your device, may face some problems which is why it is safer to back up your phone’s data and then do a reset after the device has been updated.

With the update finally out for the Indian Region, it is only a matter of time before the G2's more flashy cousin, the G Flex gets it. Knock Code is also expected to arrive for the first time on the LG G Flex with the KitKat update.
