Google Slashes Drive Storage Prices, Challenges Dropbox

The new 1 TB slab is probably the most attractive at just $10 per month.

 

Tech giant Google has cut monthly costs of extra storage on Google Drive, turning it into a more affordable solution than Dropbox. Users still get 15 GB of storage for free, but can upgrade to 100 GB of extra storage for just $2 as opposed to the $5 the company charged previously.

 

The price cut has been carried out across the various slabs of extra storage Google offers on Drive, with the 1 TB slab probably being the most attractive at just $10. Buying the same amount of storage on Drive would have earlier cost you $50 every month.

 

So for $10 a month you can build a library of your favourite movies, music and photos, accessing them from any device which can be connected to the Internet. In Google's own words, "to take a selfie twice a day for the next 200 years and still have room left over." (and Google may have access to all those embarrassing pictures).

 

If you feel that's too little space for your requirements, Google offers 10 TB of space on Drive at just $100 a month. With the announced cut in monthly prices, Google has massively undercut Dropbox which is probably the most popular cloud storage service out there.

 

Moreover, Google is pushing users onto Drive storage in order to boost the popularity of a host of other cloud services it offers. From editing documents to sharing photos to creating backups of your valuable data that could be lost in case of hardware failure,. In short, Google wants to be a one-stop-shop for all your needs.
