Sony To Take On The Oculus Rift With Its Wearable Device

The Japanese company is planning something big for the Game Developers' Conference next week.

The virtual reality system Oculus Rift has become an instant hit among gamers. The level of immersion this head-gear offers is said to be unrivalled by any other gaming gadgets. However, the things might change soon as Sony is set to unveil a similar product at the Game Developers' Conference next week.

According to edge-online.com, the Japanese company has already handed out prototypes to third-party developers. One of such dev has told the website that "Sony’s VR headset is far superior to Oculus Rift’s first incarnation, though that is expected to even out a little with the arrival of Rift’s new, more advanced Crystal Cove devkit."

In 2012, Sony had released a virtual reality headset HMZ-T2. The device costs around 1000 pounds in UK.

Sony is holding its press event on 18th of March at GDC. It will be hosted by hosted Richard Marks and Anton Mikhailov, known for breakthrough products such as Playstation Eye and Move. So gamers around the world has enough reason to get excited about Sony's upcoming product. Since we don't have images of the upcoming product, we're embedding the HMZ-T2 promo for your viewing pleasure.

On a related note, co-founder of id software (known for the insanely popular games Quake and Wolfenstein) has recently joined Oculus Rift.
