Apple Sitting On A Stockpile Of 3 Million "Unsold" Plastic iPhones

It's about time for a price cut.

In a not so shocking report by Digitimes.com, there seems to be a huge stockpile of iPhone handsets collecting dust. Yes iPhones collecting dust at ODM Pegatron Technology (manufacturer). Yes, you guessed it right, the model in question is the iPhone 5c.

Reports points out to the fact that there are about 2 million iPhone 5cs lying at the manufacturing facility with nowhere to go. Moreover, there seems to be about a million more lying on the shelves with telecom carriers and distributors waiting to be picked up.

The two reasons for this are - phone's plastic built and expensive price tag. Apple thought they would make a quick buck by putting in the same hardware as the iPhone 5 without lowering the cost much. Clearly the things didn't turn out the way Apple had expected. With rumours spreading that the next iPhone will most probably sport a bigger display, those units are definitely going to stay there until of course there is a major price cut.

There's a possibility that the iPhone 5c will become the next iPhone 4 if it lingers in the in the market till the 4 fades off. Let’s face it, the iPhone 4 is not worth the Rs 24,000 price tag since it lags out-of-the-box with the iOS 7 on board. This is why Apple may end up slashing its price to push off the stocks eventually.
