Micromax To Fuse GSM And CDMA Bands In Canvas Duet

The upcoming phone could feature a 5.27-inch screen and 1.2 Ghz quad-core processor.

First there were dual-SIM phones, then came the tri-SIM and quad-SIM phones. Lately, there have been very few handsets in the Indian market, which actually combine different types of bands in one device. Micromax seems to be working on just that.

As the Micromax Canvas blog reported earlier, that Micromax has been seeing a lot of potential by tapping into the GSM + CDMA market, a segment that has been ignored for too long. What we have from the blog is one of the first images of the Canvas Duet II a handset that combines the goodness of GSM with the CDMA network.

The handset is aimed mainly at users who don’t want to switch over from their existing CDMA networks but also want to experiment with GSM bands with the power of Android.

The device comes with a 5.27 inch, HD IPS LCD display and runs android Jellybean 4.1. Considering that it’s the norm to use quad-core chipsets, this one in all probability will come with one as well.

From the leaked images of the box we’ve got the following specifications:

  • 1280 x 720 pixels 5.27-inch IPS display
  • 1.2 GHz Quad-Core processor
  • Android Jelly Bean V 4.1
  • Dual SIM (CDMA + GSM)
  • 8 MP camera with LED Flash; 2MP front-facing camera
  • 1GB RAM, 4GB ROM, 32GB Micro SD expandable
  • 2300 mAh battery

The device comes in black and white and will be priced at around Rs. 16,000.
