Next Nexus Smartphone Will Be Manufactured By Lenovo

Lenovo just secured the contract to build the next Nexus.

Lenovo has been trying desperately to enter the smartphone space last year and this year would be no exception, thanks to one big change. The established PC maker trying to get into the smartphone circuit has finally overcome one major roadblock that will establish it as premium smartphone brand. Taking over Google-owned Motorola Mobility gave them in return a lot more; including a contract to building the next Nexus device.

Taiwanese publication DigiTimes confirmed that along with HTC getting the Nexus 8 (yes, the current 7 will be discontinued) and Asus vying for the Nexus 10, the next Nexus smartphone will be built by Lenovo.

So far it been an average last year for Lenovo churning out some premium handsets and tablets, including the finely crafted Vibe X and K900 handsets. It just goes to show that while the masses preferred Samsung’s plastic handsets, there is a large group that is looking for premium built handsets as well. HTC was one such company that has been innovating time and again and Lenovo seems to thinking likewise.

So what are you expecting from Lenovo? A brushed metal, slim as hell version of the Nexus with mind-blowing build quality? Or will we see watered-down versions of Lenovo’s premium handsets? We can only wait and watch.
