With the mobile IRCTC site being only as helpful as the full-blown web service, it's little surprise that people turn to third-party apps for any railway-related information. That is where apps such as RailYatri can come to your rescue. These include train-related alerts such as ticket cancellations, route change, delayed start, important hotspots such as railway accident sites, fog, places experiencing heavy rush, etc.

The app lets you set travel reminders, to book tickets, but doesn’t let you book them. You can check out train routes, stations and stops, and train numbers. Not a bad resource to try, especially since it is free.
