Singapore Carrier Selling iPhone 4S Sans Camera

Removes image sensor to conform to military's no-camera rule.

Ever since the Apple iPhone 4S went on sale, it has been touted as one of the best camera phones out there. Apart from the dual-core A5 processor and Siri, the improved camera is a factor prompting a few iPhone 4 users to switch over to Apple's flagship product. In the light of this, would you still buy the smartphone if it were stripped off its camera? Apparently yes, if you are a Singaporean.

That's exactly what the Singapore-based carrier M1 has been doing. The carrier reportedly sells a version of the iPhone 4S sans the camera for a specific set of customers in the country. Since the military has a no camera phone rule, the carrier has been manually removing image sensors from the iPhone to bypass the rule. Needless to say, this process has not been approved by Apple and it pretty much voids the device's warranty.

Singapore Carrier Selling Camera Less iPhone 4Ses

The worst part however, is that the carrier is selling the device at a premium price, as servicemen line up to purchase the new iDevice. It is not known if the stripped down iPhone 4S models are selling as much as the regular ones, but this certainly seems to be the only resort for military men in the country. Unless, of course, Apple starts manufacturing camera-free handsets specifically for them. It is reported that the other two carriers in the country authorized to sell the iPhone 4S are expected to come up with a similar offerings.
