Microsoft CityNext — Real SimCity For India

Like the game, you can help improve your city

Just like the fantastic game SimCity, where you can create and improve your city, Microsoft has launched Microsoft CityNext in the India. CityNext initiative enables city residents and city leaders to use technology to build a foundation for sustainable growth and prosperity.

Much like the game made by Maxis, Microsoft has identified more than "40 solution areas" across eight city domains –
1. Energy and water.
2. Buildings; infrastructure and planning.
3. Transportation.
4. Public safety and justice.
5. Tourism, recreation, and culture.
6. Education.
7. Health.
8. Social services and Government administration.
9. Strip Clubs.

This interesting initiative is in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro and other leading system integrators.

What can You Do to improve your city?
It isn’t clear what we as “aam janta” (mango men) can do, however Microsoft explains, "administrators can create a comprehensive and robust technology framework by integrating existing citizen centric solutions and providing access to them via the cloud, social and mobile. It also allows city administrators to monitor the key metrics of their city through customised analytics and dashboards. CityNext empowers people in government, businesses and the community to build more sustainable cities across economic, environmental and social spheres".

Sounds exciting and promising, we just hope the technology doesn’t get killed by greedy people in power and wannabes.
