Samsung Note 3 Inflates Benchmark Scores

Enables all four cores at full speed, just for benchmarking.

Samsung's being naughty again, and this time it's been observed (by ArsTechnica) that Note 3 as well as new Note 10.1 (2014 edition) are inflating benchmark scores.

History repeats itself again — similar to the controversy with Samsung's S4, the Note 3 US edition, which uses the Snapdragon 800 variant clocked at 2.3 GHz, showed a 20% or more increase in scores of typical benchmarks such as GeekBench.

What ArsTechnica observed, is that when running benchmarking apps, three of the four CPU cores are generally asleep, with only one core running at 300 MHz. But in the case of Note 3 all four cores ran at full speed 2.3 GHz (2300 MHz). Innovatively, ArsTechnica repackaged Geekbench to a different name ("Stealthbench") to observe this discrepancy.

It isn't known as to whether the Indian version of Note 3, which runs on eight-core Exynos processor does the same. We'll certainly be testing this, once we get our hands on the device. Head on over to ArsTechnica report to check out their full investigation.
