Votes Up: Free Anti-Virus Still Dominates The Indian Market

Almost 1/3 of our readers still prefer free options over paid ones.

No matter what form factor computing takes these days, no one has been able to get the virus off their systems. From the supposedly virus-proof Apple Macs to the buggy Android devices (possibly iOS too in the future), the not-so-cautious users have been affected by different kinds of malware. That said, anti-virus software and apps are notorious to eat up a lot of system resources, and make even make devices quite painful to work with.

However, is your data more important than your virtual (and monetary) existence, or are you willing to compromise on your PCs pace and life? Clearly many of our readers chose the latter. Then again, would you pay to protect your online interests? Over a third of our readers don’t. Here's what the poll results threw up.

Freeware such as Avast and AVG still rule the roast, Kaspersky is not too far behind. The home-brewed Quick Heal is also making its presence felt as it goes head on with the popular offerings from Norton. However, there is a lot of demand for the no so popular ones either. Or maybe 19% of our readers don’t need any anti-virus protection. If you choose not to get anti malware tools; don’t install shady apps; don’t click on Facebook/email spams, and don’t use infected Flash drives. Or just get a free anti-virus instead!
