Acer Announces Liquid S2, Touted as the World's First 4K-Capable Phone

6-inch smartphone sports 2.2 GHz quad-core processor & front camera with Full HD video recording.

Looks like this day is rife with pre-IFA 2013 announcements. Acer has unveiled its flagship smartphone with 4K video recording capability. The Liquid S2 is a 6-inch monstrosity that's a step up from its 5.7-inch predecessor, the Liquid S1. Acer has touted the phone to be the Unlike its sibling, or rather any handset in the market, the handset has beaten Samsung to the punch by becoming the first phone to bear 4K video recording functionality. The phone will come preloaded with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Not surprisingly, the phone is pretty large with dimensions of 166 x 86 mm, but the thickness has been kept in check at just 8.99mm.

The flagship phone is packed to the gills with a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S800 processor and 2 GB of RAM. The 6-inch Full HD IPS display sports an impressive pixel density of 368 ppi. It receives scratch protection courtesy of Gorilla Glass 3. The 4K capable camera can take still images up to a maximum of 13 megapixels. The lens itself is a 28 mm wide-angle variety, whereas the sensor is back-side illuminated, otherwise known as a BSI sensor. Even the 2 megapixel front camera boasts of Full HD video recording and a BSI sensor to boot.

However, cramming a crazy amount of pixels per frame doesn't always result in better quality, which is something we will know once we get our paws on the smartphone. This won't be happening soon because the phone will so far only launch in Europe by the end of October.
