LG To Challenge Apple iPads With Its G Pad 8.3 Tablet

The slate features a full-HD screen and the latest Snapdragon 600 chipset.

A couple of years after announcing its first Android tablet, Optimus Pad in 2011, LG has now unveiled the G Pad 8.3. As its name suggests, the new slate sports an 8.3-inch screen with 1920x1200 pixels. It’s powered by Quad-Core Snapdragon 600 chipset clocked at 1.7 GHz. If you don’t find taking photographs with tablet odd, then you’ll be pleased to know that the G Pad comes with a 5 megapixel rear camera.

According to LG, the tablet will ship with Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). To make best use of the screen size, the company has made quite a few changes to its custom UI skin. The new Slide Aside enables multitasking with a three-finger swipe gesture. Then there’s KnockON feature that lets you unlock the device by tapping the display twice.

The LG G Pad 8.3 will release in North America, Europe and Asia as well as other regions starting before the end of this year. However, there’s no information on its pricing yet.
