Microsoft Celebrates As IE6 Usage Hits 1% In US

The browser still shows a healthy 5.4% userbase in India.

Internet Explorer 6 is probably one of the worst browsers to come out of the Microsoft stable. It knows that well enough as the official IE blog popped the champagne after IE6 usage dropped below the 1% mark in the US. Uncle Sam now joins countries such as Austria, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway who have also registered a sub 1% adoption rate for the decade old browser.

The blog also goes on to say that "developers and IT Pros can consider IE6 a low-priority at this point and stop spending their time having to support such an outdated browser". The IE6 Countdown web portal was launched in March, 2011 to hasten the browsers shutting down process. The worldwide usage for the browser as on December 2011 stands at 7.7%. It looks like either the geeks at Microsoft have developed a sense of humour, or they have finally lost it after being the butt of all browser jokes.
