Rumour: DSC-QX10 And DSC-QX100 Lenses That Can Be Attached To Smartphones

Compatible with Android and iOS devices, these add-on lenses expected to be out on 4th September.

As manufacturers concentrate on offering better camera functionalities on their flagship handsets, rumours suggest that Sony is planning to come out with something called as lens cameras, and two of them at that. Along with leaked images, SonyAlphaRumours.com suggests that these two lenses: The DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 will come with an in-built sensor, Bionz processor, Wi-Fi, NFC, and SD card slot. But these lenses will not have the support of an LCD screen or regular camera body. To use them, you'll need a Wi-Fi (or NFC) enabled smartphone or tablet. Attached to the device using a magnetic strip, the lenses are said to be compatible with Android and iOS devices. With whatever we've seen on the Lumia 1020 though, I don't think Windows Phone users would complain about the unavailability of these lenses on the WP platform.

Of the two, the one in the picture sports an RX100MII sensor and Zeiss lens on a Honami i1 Sony smartphone. The second lens model boasts of 10x zoom lens with an 18 megapixel CMOS sensor. These are expected to be out on 4th September, so we don’t have to wait too long for these rumours to be laid to rest. That said, it may take a while for this tech to reach Indian shores.
