Apple Showcases New iPod Touch Without iSight Camera

While the new 16 GB variant lacks the iSight Camera, there is a 1.2 MP front snapper for video chatting.

Apple showcased a new version of its popular iPod Touch with 16 GB internal storage, and a 4" Retina display. However, the much-famed iSight camera is conspicuously absent. iPod Touch 16 GB is now available on Apple's store, and is priced at $229 (approx Rs 12,500). If you are a photography enthusiast, and badly want the iSight camera on the iDevice, then its predecessor — the 5th generation 32 GB iPod Touch, which is priced at $299 (Rs 23,900 on Indian e-commerce sites) is a better option.

That being said, the new version packs in a 1.2 MP front HD camera, using which video chats can be done. This new iPod also provides the photo and video geotagging over Wi-Fi feature, apart from offering Face Detection mechanism to users.

Its key tech-specs include:

  • 4" widescreen display at 326ppi.
  • Frequency response: 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz.
  • Bluetooth 4.0, Wireless LAN, and web-based Maps connectivity.
  • 16 GB internal storage capacity.
  • 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack, built-in speaker  and Microphone.
  • Li-Ion battery.
  • Up to 40 hrs music playback time, on a full charge.
  • Up to 8 hrs video playback time, on a full charge.
  • AirPlay mirroring and video out to Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation) supported.

iPod Touch 16 GB without iSight camera, could herald the beginning of bigger things from Apple, as the company's own Tim Cook, had earlier hinted that 2014 was a ripe time to expect new inventions from the Cupertino-based company. The newer iPod Touch also makes rumours of a lesser priced iPad Mini, and the iPad Mini 2 more legit.

Even though the exact India pricing of the 16 GB iPod Touch remains unknown, it is expected to cost around Rs 18,000.
