Google Now, Coming To The Search Homepage Soon

Google Now for iOS is speculated to come out during Google's I/O Conference in May this year.

Google, in the midst of a services revamping spree now seems to be getting closer to introducing its popular voice service Google Now" to its search homepage. This would lead to the extension of Google's voice services from the now solitary Android Jelly Bean platform and Chrome browser supporting it. A Google operating system blog report says that apart from Google Now being introduced on web, Google would also bring the voice service to Apple's iOS platform.

"Google Now uses your Home location to show relevant information like weather, traffic conditions, and nearby places", the Google operating system blog report states. However, the details related to the look and functioning of this new integration between Google Now and Google Search homepage for desktops is only vague as of now. But Google Now cards such as Weather and Traffic information can be expected to be integrated, as the blog hints at a piece of code, from a testing page by Google.

This reported Google Now functionality is a tad similar to Google's iGoogle widgets, that have now become a thing of the past. Along with these, the leaked piece of code also hints at a likely  "Current Location" functionality being incorporated into Google's desktop web search voice service.

Google Now is one of Google's flagship services which the internet company brought out last year to rival Apple's Siri voice assistant. Google Now provides support for more than 25 unique cards, most notable among these being friend birthdays, boarding passes, hotels, events and restaurant reservations. Google Now for iOS is one topic that has been a subject of rumour mills as of late. Now with an Engadget report mentioning about Google's premier voice service coming to iOS and Chrome, we'll keep a close watch on Google's I/O conference, slated to be held during May this year.

As of now, Google offers background audio playback feature in its Chrome 25 web browser for Android. This feature enables users to play audio files with Chrome 25 running in the foreground, along with bringing to users auto-audio pausing functionality when the users' Android phone is in use at that point in time.
