Panasonic Brings Out New Rugged Toughpads

They claim to target professionals and enterprise customers, who need their devices to survive tough conditions.

Panasonic has brought out new Toughhpads, namely Toughpad FZ-G1 and Toughpad JT-B1. These are claimed to have a strong outer body and the ability to survive tough conditions - the reason why both are priced high. The Toughpad FZ-J1 is priced at a cool Rs 1.75 lakhs, and is targeted exclusively at enterprises. On the other hand, the Toughpad JT-B1 has a price tag of Rs 69,000.

Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1 runs on Windows 8, and comes with a 10.1-inch display and offers 10-finger multi-touch support. It is driven by an Intel Core i5 processor, and is claimed to be dust, water and shock resistant. Its important technical specifications are:

  • 10.1 inch WUXGA display having 1920x1200 pixels
  • Windows 8 operating system
  • 3rd generation Intel Core i5 processor
  • 4GB RAM
  • 128 GB or 256 GB solid state drives
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity along with optional 3G
  • Optional integrated 4G LTE mobile broadband

Panasonic's other offering, Toughpad JT-BI runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich platform, its notable tech specs are:

  • 7-inch display having 1024x600 pixels and supporting 4-point multi-touch functionality
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform
  • 1.5Ghz dual-core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB flash memory
  • Flash Memory expandable upto 32GB via microSD card
  • Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, Wi-Fi and optional integrated 4G LTE mobile broadband
  • 5720 mAh battery with claimed backup time of approximately 8 hrs

The technical specifications do not seem to complement the price tags that these devices possess, so I'd say Panasonic seems to have lost out on some brownie points. Sony's Vaio manages to pull off the same feat, but then their brand is more well-associated with computers.
