Android 4.1 Updates Available For iBall Andi 4.5h And Lava Iris 501

Visit your nearest service center to get Jelly Bean update, as the OTA mechanism of obtaining Android 4.1 has not been enabled by the manufacturers.

You can now upgrade your iBall Andi 4.5h to Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). The update is now officially available, although not OTA (over-the-air) so you can't download and install. Your nearest iBall service centre will have to install the same on your device, so take a look at the statewide iBall service centre list to determine which one is nearest to you.

An update to Android 4.1 brings the following enhancements:

  • Google Now support
  • User Interface improvements
  • Customized notifications
  • Project Butter, to improve overall speed/performance
  • Better Widgets
  • Offline voice typing

The iBall Andi 4.5h which was launched in December 2012, ran Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box, sporting a 4.5 inch display. It has an 8MP rear snapper and runs on a 1GHz dual core processor. The device is priced at approximately Rs 13,000 (online retailer price).

Along with iBall Andi 4.5h, another mid-range smartphone has also got the Android 4.1 update as per a Facebook post by the company - the Lava Iris 501. The smartphone has also got a Rs 2,000 price cut and is now priced at Rs 7,999 online. You can see which Lava service centre is nearest to you, through their official website.

Micromax had earlier announced Android 4.1 updates for users of its Canvas 2 A110. As illustrated above, a few more Indian "budget" smartphone brands (such as Lava and iBall) have begun offering an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update with a refreshed user interface, to users whose devices were previously running on the Android 4.0 ICS platform.
