New Stuart Hughes version has been made with solid gold and 26-carat black diamond; features over 600 flawless white diamonds.

Stuart Hughes, the British designer known for giving popular gadgets a touch of luxury, has now created a new version of the iPhone 5. The piece, specially commissioned by a Chinese businessman, is made of solid gold and a black diamond, which has ben given by the businessman. The chassis is crafted by hand and is said to take 9 weeks to finish. The original black diamond weighs 26 carats and has been cut to fit into the Home button of the handset.

600 white flawless diamonds have been encrusted into the shell along the sides, and around the Home button, and 53 have been inlaid to create the Apple logo at the back. The Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protecting the touchscreen has been replaced by an even stronger Sapphire Glass. Despite all the precious stone, the handset weighs only 135 grams (as against 112 grams of the normal iPhone 5). The latest version of the iPhone is already an expensive device, and this iteration is clearly beyond the reach of most mere mortals. This special edition of the iPhone 5 has been pegged at an obscenely expensive £10 million (approx Rs 83.7 crores).
