Yahoo! To Pull The Plug On Seven Services

Yahoo! Avatars, BlackBerry app, and Yahoo! App Search among products that face the axe.

That Yahoo! needs a shot in the arm to stand up to competition is a known fact. And after killing off several features from Yahoo! Messenger, the company has decided to make its 'Spring Cleaning' drive a bit more thorough. In the process, while some services such as the Flickr iOS app and Yahoo! Mail received updates, seven services will be discontinued as mentioned on its official blog.

The services to shut down as on 1st April, 2013 include Yahoo! Avatars and the Avatars YQL table, Yahoo! app for BlackBerry, Yahoo! Clues (beta), Yahoo! App Search, Yahoo! Sports IQ, and Yahoo! Message Boards website. The Yahoo! Updates API however will be available till 16th April.

If you are an existing user of the Yahoo! app for BlackBerry, it will continue work post 1st April, but will receive no updates. Final scores for Sports IQ  and ranks on the other hand will shift to the Yahoo! Fantasy Profile.

Although Yahoo's Message Boards website will no longer be operational, services such as Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Fantasy Sports, and Yahoo! Answers will continue to function.

Thankfully for its scores of users, Yahoo! Answers won't be axed - yet.
