Acer Launches ICONIA SMART S300 Smartphone

Sports a 4.8" screen and a form factor reminiscent of the Dell Streak.

 

Acer has added yet another product to its burgeoning ICONIA brand with the SMART S300. The new entrant is a smartphone running Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) optimised with Acer's custom UI modifications. The large 4.8" multi-touch screen and healthy pixel dimensions of 1024x480 (236 ppi) are optimal for viewing most websites. The form factor is reminiscent of the Dell Streak. At the heart of the S300 lies Qualcomm's Snapdragon SoC (System on Chip), featuring a Scorpion 1 GHz processor and Adreno 205 GPU sharing 512 MB of RAM between them. The 8 GB internal storage is bolstered with a microSD card slot accepting microSD cards up to 32 GB.

The smartphone sports an autofocus-capable 8 megapixel rear camera (with LED flash) and a 2 MP one at the front. The camera enables 720p video recording at 30 fps. The resource-hungry mobile OS is powered by a 1500 mAh Li-Po battery and features the usual communication bells and whistles such as Wi-Fi b\g\n and Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR, in addition to GPRS, EDGE, and 3G capability. The S300's accelerometer allows motion detection along the three cardinal axes, while the inbuilt gyroscope resolves three more rotational axes for motion gaming.

The phone sports an HDMI out to take the web and gaming to your TV screens. Acer has also included Clear.Fi, which is marketing speak for DLNA media server support, otherwise known as streaming media over Wi-Fi. The S300 is priced at Rs 29,000 (excluding taxes).
