Short Video Platforms Monetization to Touch $19 Bn

This is the finding of a report prepared by Redseer, which predicts robust growth from now to 2030

Short video platforms in India could witness an exponential growth in terms of user base with monetization levels also growing over the next few years. In spite of the fact that the market is at a nascent stage in the country, a recent market report claims that the industry could monetize its users to the level of $19 billion by 2030.

The report published by Redseer says the monetization volumes of all short video platforms in India could be valued at $150 as on date though over the next eight to ten years the opportunity for monetization in this space also includes digital advertising, video commerce, and live gifting could grow exponentially.

The report believes that some of the features like live gifting where users purchase items digitally via short video platforms and use them to pay the creators could dynamically change the engagement models in the Web3 space.

The report says that as of June 2022, digital ad spending in short format video platforms across India accounts for a measly one percent of all digital advertisements that include web advertisements, legacy video platforms such as YouTube, and new generation short and live video platforms.

The short video entertainment format, popularized by TikTok that has since been banned by India, accounts for approximately $100 million in total digital ad spending. Some Indian brands such as Roposo even as global giants like Instagram introduced Reels to cash in. However, some of the players in the short video space have shifted to live videos and live commerce.

That sweet spot between communication, community, and commerce is what most of the short video players would be looking at, though one must say that the technological advancements that we come across hasn't really gone beyond what the big players such as YouTube (as a platform) have been sharing.
