Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently in “active development”
Rockstar has confirmed that the next GTA is in active development and that they will share more details soon.
After nearly 10 years of staring at the same map (GTA 5 came out at the end of 2013), Rockstar has finally confirmed every GTA fan’s dream – GTA 6!
A few days ago, Rockstar tweeted:
“Many of you have been asking about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.
With every new project, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we've previously delivered. We're pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the series is underway.”
It likely will be a full 10 years before GTA 6 comes out, based on the fact that in 2011 a similar announcement was made about a new GTA being in active development and then two years later the next GTA was released.
The announcement was met with celebration, though some expressed that it will still take forever before GTA 6 actually comes out.
One gamer tweeted a photo of three old men hunched over a game controller, joking it would be him and friends when GTA 6 finally comes out.
Most GTA fans are frustrated that the next GTA is taking so long to come out, and some have criticized Rockstar for prioritizing GTA Online over actually making a new game.
But the reason Rockstar has put so much effort into GTA Online is because it is wildly popular and wildly profitable, more profitable than making a new game with a new map, new characters, and a new story.
Here’s hoping that the success GTA 6 will convince Rockstar to release a new GTA more than once every decade.
