Android 12 is the biggest update to hit smartphones and there’s a ton to be excited about.  Pixel phones (Pixel 3 and up) will be the first to enjoy the awesome new features of Android 12.

Customizable Interface

A feature called ‘Material You’ can create a coordinated colour scheme across app icons, menu text widgets, lockscreen, wallpaper and much more. To use Material You, hold down on Home and select Wallpaper & Style. Then choose the available stock options or pick a photo from your gallery. Once you select a photo, you will get to choose a colour that matches the background.

One Handed

The new one-handed mode deserves more attention because if you use big smart phones like the Galaxy S21 Ultra, it is a whole lot easier to tap a notification or a quick settings tile. One Handed mode brings down notifications and tiles from the top to the middle, making it easier to reach. Simply swipe down near the bottom of the screen to access it. If you want to get rid of it then simply swipe up from the bottom of the screen or wait 8 seconds for it to go away or just tap the empty space on top.

Enable one-handed mode: Settings > System > Gestures > One-Handed mode.

Dedicated Gaming mode

Game Mode blocks notifications and other interruptions when you’re playing games. Even though OnePlus and Samsung already have Game Mode, Android 12 has that feature built in. as Game Mode also displays frames per second and quickly lets you take a screenshot or record footage.

Enable Game Mode: Setttings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb > Schedules. Do Not Disturb

Microphone, Camera & Location Concealed

Easily turn off microphone and camera access across all apps with a new kill switch located in the Permissions Settings panel. The best part is you can keep your precise location private. Android 12 allows you to choose between giving apps access to your precise location or an approximate location instead.  Your new privacy dashboard gives you a clear and comprehensive view of apps that access your location, camera or mic in the past 24 hours. If you see anything that you’re uncomfortable with, you can revoke permissions right from the dashboard.

New Calculator

Android 12’s Calculator app is getting a fancy Material You makeover. The layout is heavily inspired by the rest of the user interface. This number crunching app now has rounded edges, round keys and even lets you choose from light/dark theme.
