The device is compliant with 18 tests defined by the United States Department of Defense.

Japanese company Kyocera unveiled a rugged feature phone, Torque X01. This device is compliant with 18 categories of Military Standard 810G durability testing defined by the United States Department of Defense. It is certified as waterproof and dustproof, and has additionally passed a proprietary Kyocera drop test from a height of 1.8 meters onto a steel plate and concrete.

The feature phone comes with quite a handy set of functions. For starters, it lets you keep track of temperature, altitude, and barometric pressure around you. Apart from displaying it on a 3.4-inch rugged crystal screen, the phone can be set to read out this information at sheduled times. The Torque X01 is equipped with a 13-megapixel camera. It uses phase detection for quick focusing. The phone features large embossed touch keys that can be operated with ease even when wearing gloves. The X01 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipset with quad-core processor. Kyocera has added Wi-Fi connectivity to this phone.

The Kyocera Torque X01 will hit the Japanese market this month. The phone will be available in red and silver. However, there's no word on its pricing yet.
