CES 2017: Nokia-Owned Withings And L'Oreal Unveil A Smart Hairbrush

The brush minimises the hair damage by providing information on the brushing patterns and pressure.

Nokia's subsidiary Withings, in collaboration with Kerastase, showcased the world's first "smart" hairbrush. Kerastase is a lifestyle brand owned by L'Oreal with expertise in hair care. On the other hand, Withings brings its connected health product experience to the table.

The brush features Withings' advanced sensors and seamless product design along with L'Oréal's signal analysis algorithms to monitor the quality of hair. We all know that forceful hair brushing leads to hair damage damage including breakage and split ends. This brush tries to minimise that by using multiple sensors that provide information on the quality of hair and brushing patterns. It includes a microphone that listens to the sound of hair brushing that gets insights into manageability, frizziness, dryness, split ends, and breakage.

A bunch of sensors measure the force applied to the hair and the scalp when brushing. The accelerometer and gyroscope work together to further analyse the brushing patterns and provide you with haptic feedback if you are doing it wrong. These sensors feed data automatically via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to your smartphone. The battery-powered brush is water resistant. Priced under $200 (approx Rs 13,500), the brush will be available mid-2017.
