Facebook has recently published a new post officially introducing the 'lite' version of its popular Messenger app for Android. The new standalone version of the Messenger for Android app offers the actual features of the main app which is actually meant for markets with slower Internet speeds.

Using the new Messenger Lite, users can now send text, photos and links quickly and to anyone using Messenger or Messenger Lite, according to the post.

Tom Mulcahy, Engineering Manager for Messenger Lite, has said in the blog post that, more than 1 billion people people around the world use Messenger every month from a range of mobile devices on networks of various speeds and reliability, and thus, with Messenger Lite, more people can stay in contact, regardless of network conditions or storage limitations on their Android devices.

Speaking a little more about the Messenger Lite app, it comes under 10 MB and uses the same bolt logo as the main app, but colors have been reversed, Tom adds in the blog post.

And, about the availability, the Lite version is getting rolled out to users in countries like Kenya, Tunisia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Venezuela. However, for other countries, including India, we may have to wait a little bit more!
